The ZCHS English Department

The importance of English as a subject cannot be over-emphasized enough. For one, it is the medium of instruction used in our schools, and it is expected that a knowledge of the subject will help the students navigate the rest of the other subjects easily. Second, a working knowledge of the English language makes communication possible with people from other countries. This is especially advantageous for our millions of Overseas Filipino Workers. Thirdly, English is the language of the internet; moreover, newspapers and books are also written in English. It is also useful in travel and in business. Thus, in line with the Department of Education’s Mission and Vision,  the English Department of Zamboanga City High School Main strives to develop students who are not only well-versed in the different aspects of the English language, but also are able to use it as a tool of communication through its curricular and co-curricular activities. At the helm of the department is Head Teacher II Ma. Loradel G. Delumpines, PhD, a young and dynamic educator whose leadership has steered the department into a more vibrant and more responsive working environment just two years into her incumbency. Moreover, the department is ably operated by a powerhouse faculty of 7 Master Teachers, 17 Teacher IIIs, 6 Teacher IIs, and 11 Teacher Is. The 40-strong English Department teaching staff lays claim to highly-qualified, well-trained, and greatly proficient teachers who are adept at adapting to the challenges of the times, especially in the new normal.
